Southern Cassowary
Giclee reprint of an original lithograph from Volume 15 of the Transactions of the Zoological Society of London one of the most legendary and visually magnificent volumes in the history of ornithological publishing.
Published in parts between 1898 and 1901, this specific volume is globally celebrated by book collectors because it contains Lord Walter Rothschild’s entire groundbreaking masterpiece: A Monograph of the Genus Casuarius. The volume features an array of large, premium lithographic plates. The cassowary series within it consists of 22 beautifully hand-colored plates drawn by master avian illustrator John Gerrard Keulemans. He painstakingly recreated the exact texture of their skin folds, vivid blues, and striking wattle colors.
