Sabertooth longhorn beetle and others
Giclee reprint of an original lithograph from Palisot de Beauvois’ Insectes recueillis en Afrique et en Amérique, published in 1805 in Paris.
The name indicated on this plate, Prionus cervicornis, is an obsolete historical name for the sabertooth longhorn beetle. This species is now scientifically classified as Macrodontia cervicornis. It is one of the largest insect species in the world.
