This atlas was compiled to provide a comprehensive, accessible reference of global mammal species for both naturalists and the general public. The accompanying text tracks contemporary zoological taxonomy, documenting the anatomical variations, behaviors, and environmental ranges of the classified mammalian families.

This print features the sloth bear (Melursus ursinus), a mammal native to the Indian subcontinent that feeds primarily on termites and ants. The illustration highlights the physical traits that are characteristic of this species, such as its long, shaggy dark fur, the mane around the neck and head, extended snout, and light-colored V-marking on the chest. The artwork also shows the long curved claws that this species uses for digging into insect mounds and climbing trees. While not a predator like other bear species, it is one of the most aggressive and dangerous bear species in the world.
