Utrecht 1695

This late-17th-century plan captures Utrecht during a period of significant urban change. Following the Dutch Revolt and the Reformation, former monastic grounds were redeveloped, fortifications were altered and the medieval city continued to grow denser. Beyond its practical purpose, the map was also a statement of civic identity, enriched with heraldic arms, decorative cartouches and a detailed numbered key.
